16 Super-Easy Household Tips to Freshen Up Your Home

When you’re in a pinch and need to get the house cleaned quickly, you can always call our professional house cleaners – but if that’s not in the cards for you, use these 16 amazing cleaning tips that’ll make your home sparkle.

16 Super-Easy Household Tips to Freshen Up Your Home

First things first: Make an all-purpose cleaner by combining 4 tablespoons of baking soda and 1 quart of warm water. It’s perfect for countertops, appliances and more – just use it with a sponge to wipe away messes.

  1. Clear clogged drains by pouring a half-cup of baking soda in them, then following it with a half-cup of vinegar. Cover the drain with a wet cloth for about five minutes, then flush it with hot water.
  2. Remove marker stains with toothpaste. They’ll come right out of wood and other surfaces.
  3. Clean your garbage disposal by running it with ice cubes inside; then put a few lemon rinds in and chase them with cold water.
  4. Don’t bother cleaning muddy footprints until they’ve dried – mud is harder to clean than dried dirt is.
  5. Make your microwave easier to clean by heating a cup of water and a chopped lemon on high until you start to see steam. Leave it there for 15 minutes, and then wipe away the gunk.
  6. Scrub away kids’ wall art with a damp sponge with a touch of baking soda. Just be careful not to press too hard – you’ll take the paint off if you do.
  7. Get grease stains out of clothes with dish detergent.
  8. Deodorize the places your pets hang out by sprinkling them with baking soda. Let the baking soda sit for 15 minutes, then vacuum it away.
  9. Iron your clothes while they’re still damp. That way, wrinkles come out a lot faster.
  10. Get stains out of a cutting board by running a cut lemon over it. If the stains are bad, sprinkle the cutting board with salt or baking soda first.
  11. Shine silver by rubbing it with toothpaste; rinse it off and dry, and you’re all set.
  12. Clean your shower grout with a mixture of ¾ cup of chlorine bleach and 1 gallon of water. Apply it to problem spots with a stiff brush and let it sit for several minutes before you rinse it away.
  13. Clean patio furniture by spritzing a mixture of dish detergent and warm water. Rinse it all away with a garden hose.
  14. Shine your windows by mixing 2 tablespoons of white vinegar into a gallon of water and spraying the combination on; wipe it away with a microfiber cloth.
  15. Shine your copper pots and fixtures with ketchup.
  16. Clean chrome fixtures with – you guessed it – toothpaste. Rub it on and wipe it away with a wet sponge.
