16 Super-Easy Household Tips to Freshen Up Your Home
First things first: Make an all-purpose cleaner by combining 4 tablespoons of baking soda and 1 quart of warm water. It’s perfect for countertops, appliances and more – just use it with a sponge to wipe away messes.
- Clear clogged drains by pouring a half-cup of baking soda in them, then following it with a half-cup of vinegar. Cover the drain with a wet cloth for about five minutes, then flush it with hot water.
- Remove marker stains with toothpaste. They’ll come right out of wood and other surfaces.
- Clean your garbage disposal by running it with ice cubes inside; then put a few lemon rinds in and chase them with cold water.
- Don’t bother cleaning muddy footprints until they’ve dried – mud is harder to clean than dried dirt is.
- Make your microwave easier to clean by heating a cup of water and a chopped lemon on high until you start to see steam. Leave it there for 15 minutes, and then wipe away the gunk.
- Scrub away kids’ wall art with a damp sponge with a touch of baking soda. Just be careful not to press too hard – you’ll take the paint off if you do.
- Get grease stains out of clothes with dish detergent.
- Deodorize the places your pets hang out by sprinkling them with baking soda. Let the baking soda sit for 15 minutes, then vacuum it away.
- Iron your clothes while they’re still damp. That way, wrinkles come out a lot faster.
- Get stains out of a cutting board by running a cut lemon over it. If the stains are bad, sprinkle the cutting board with salt or baking soda first.
- Shine silver by rubbing it with toothpaste; rinse it off and dry, and you’re all set.
- Clean your shower grout with a mixture of ¾ cup of chlorine bleach and 1 gallon of water. Apply it to problem spots with a stiff brush and let it sit for several minutes before you rinse it away.
- Clean patio furniture by spritzing a mixture of dish detergent and warm water. Rinse it all away with a garden hose.
- Shine your windows by mixing 2 tablespoons of white vinegar into a gallon of water and spraying the combination on; wipe it away with a microfiber cloth.
- Shine your copper pots and fixtures with ketchup.
- Clean chrome fixtures with – you guessed it – toothpaste. Rub it on and wipe it away with a wet sponge.
