How to Get Coffee Out of Carpet

If you’re like most people, you’ve spilled a cup of coffee in your time – and if you’re like many of us, you may have even spilled it on your beautiful, light-colored carpet.

How to Get Coffee Out of Carpet

Blot up as much of the liquid as you can using a towel. Don’t scrub – just blot it. If it’s easier, put the towel over the stain and step on it (with your shoes on, because it’s going to soak into your socks if you’re not wearing shoes). Repeat the process as many times as necessary until the carpet feels pretty dry, and remember not to blot using a part of the towel that’s already saturated with coffee. (Watch the saturated parts of the towel over clean parts of your carpet, too – you don’t want to transfer a stain.)

Do this as soon as possible after the spill to prevent more liquid from seeping into the carpet’s fibers or the padding beneath it.

When the spot is nearly dry, you need:

• 1 tablespoon liquid dish soap
• 1 tablespoon white vinegar
• 2 cups warm water

Mix the dish soap, vinegar and water in a plastic container. Dip a clean, white cloth (white helps you see when you’ve gotten all the staining out) in the mixture and sponge it over the stain. Only do a little at a time, and blot it with a dry cloth after each application.

When you can’t see the coffee stain any longer, sponge the spot with cold water and blot it dry.

There’s nothing wrong with using a stain-removing carpet shampoo, as well – but if you act quickly, this mixture will pick up the stain and leave your carpet looking as good as it did before the spill.
